Award-winning actor and activist BD Wong will be the featured speaker of the Kegley Institute of Ethics’ Fall Lecture.
The free event, titled “An Evening with Actor BD Wong: From Exclusion to Inclusion,” will be held on Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. in the Doré Theatre. Wong will speak about the challenges he has overcome in the entertainment industry as a gay Asian American and how he came to embrace his identity.
Wong has worked for over three decades in the entertainment industry. He is most widely known for his roles in four of the “Jurassic Park” films, the TV series “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” and Disney’s 1998 animated film “Mulan.”
The actor also has stage experience. His Broadway debut in “M. Butterfly” in 1988 earned him several awards, including the prestigious Tony Award. To date, Wong is the only actor to win all five major New York theater awards for a single role.
Wong has long been an advocate for causes supporting Asian Americans and the LGBTQ+ community. He has received several service awards from organizations such as GLAAD and the Asian American Legal Defense & Education Fund.
The Nov. 5 lecture is just one of several events that the Kegley Institute of Ethics (KIE) is hosting this fall.
“We are delighted to be collaborating with many campus and community partners to offer a diverse range of events this fall,” said KIE Interim Director Dr. Nate Olson. “Our events provide opportunities to learn about many issues impacting our campus and broader community, but they are also places for attendees to share their perspectives and for us to grow in community together. I hope everyone can join in the conversations we're having this semester.”
