California State University, Bakersfield President Dr. Lynnette Zelezny joined Lavonne C. Hall on the concourse of the Icardo Center Tuesday afternoon for an intimate ceremony to break ground on the Harvey L. Hall Family Plaza project.
Previously announced in 2019, plans for the Harvey L. Hall Family Plaza originally envisioned an improved gathering place for students and Roadrunner fans attending Athletics and University events at the Icardo Center. In the time since, with the help of campus leadership, that concept transformed into a renovation that benefits both CSUB Athletics as well as the campus. Including the relocation of the roadway turnaround, the Student Health Center will now better be served as well.
Tuesday’s groundbreaking is the first step toward marking the Harvey L. Hall Family Plaza a physical reality. Construction is slated to begin in November and is expected to finish by spring of 2021.
The Hall Family Plaza will be symbolic of the relationship between Hall and the University, which dates back to the early 1970s when he founded Hall Ambulance Service, Inc. and began providing standby ambulance service at each of the school's home athletic contests. That relationship has only deepened over the past 47 years.
