California State University, Bakersfield is celebrating LGBTQ+ pride with several events being held throughout the month.
The OUTober Pride Month 2022 celebration kicks off on Wednesday with a Pride Flag raising ceremony at noon in the admin quad. The celebration is being held in conjunction with LGBT History Month, which recognizes the history and achievements of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.
“OUTober is a month dedicated to celebrating LGBTQ+ culture, supporting LGBTQ+ rights and ensuring our community understands that CSUB is a safe, supportive and accepting institution of higher education,” said Kris Grappendorf, co-chair of the LGBTQ+ faculty and staff affinity group. “OUTober is a time for individuals to celebrate, embrace and honor the diversity of all. It’s a time for the community and allies to rally together to celebrate how far we’ve come and bring attention to the challenges still facing the LGBTQ+ community.”
The flag-raising ceremony on Oct. 5 will include several speakers, including officers from Associated Students, Inc. Food catered by Moo Creamery will also be provided.
