CSUB gets top rating in Money’s 2023 Best Colleges ranking

University also recognized in Best Public Colleges, Best Colleges in the West lists

Money magazine has ranked California State University, Bakersfield as one of the best universities in the nation.

Money rated CSUB 4.5 out of 5 stars in its 2023 Best Colleges in America rankings as well as in its Best Public Colleges and Best Colleges in the West lists. More than 700 institutions were evaluated based on 26 factors involving quality, affordability and student outcomes.

“Since its founding a handful of decades ago, California State University, Bakersfield has become one of the best colleges at vaulting diverse students up the socioeconomic ladder,” Money said.

The magazine switched from a numbered system to a rating system for this year’s Best Colleges rankings. While the methodology for the rankings hasn’t changed much, Money said a rating system helps families with their college search more by highlighting the variety and diversity of these institutions.

Money’s mission is to provide users with resources and tools to make informed decisions about their finances.

CSUB has received top rankings from other outlets this past academic year, including:

No. 10 in CollegeNET’s 2022 Social Mobility Index.
No. 20 in Education Reform Now’s 2023 Social Mobility Elevator rankings.
No. 18 in Top Performers on Social Mobility among western universities in the U.S. News and World Report’s 2022-23 Best Colleges report.
No. 13 in the Best Bang for the Buck: West list in Washington Monthly’s 2022 College Guide.
No. 5 in think tank Third Way’s Economic Mobility Index.
