California State University, Bakersfield Finance Professor Dr. Mahdy Elhusseiny is one of five educators nationwide to be recognized for their efforts to support finance students.
Financial Management Association (FMA) International has named Dr. Elhusseiny as one of the 2024-25 recipients of its Superior Faculty Advisor Award, which recognizes FMA faculty advisors for making meaningful contributions to their student chapters. This is the second year in a row that Dr. Elhusseiny has received the award.
“Receiving this recognition for a second consecutive year is truly an honor,” he said. “I am deeply proud of our students’ commitment, their energy in organizing impactful events, and their eagerness to connect classroom learning with real-world finance. This award belongs to them as much as it does to me.”
Dean of CSUB's College of Business and Public Administration Dr. Deborah Cours congratulated Dr. Elhusseiny "for his commitment to student success through education and co-curricular professional experiences. This award recognizes how CSUB faculty go the extra mile and a half to support students in their preparation for successful careers.”
Each year, Dr. Elhusseiny leads more than 25 students on a real-world learning experience in New York City, where they visit Wall Street and meet with senior professionals at the New York Stock Exchange, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and other leading financial institutions. Students consistently describe these opportunities as life-changing and pivotal to their career development.
Under his advising, the CSUB FMA chapter continues to host an array of professional and community-building events. Upcoming events include the Small Business Finance Event on Nov. 5 in the Student Union Multipurpose Room and its bikweekly professional speaker series, which begins on Oct. 8 in the Business Development Center Room 262B.
The next trip to New York will take place from April 29 to May 3, 2026.
The CSUB chapter's mission aligns with the broader vision of FMA International, which is to be the global leader in developing and disseminating knowledge about financial decision-making. Locally, the chapter is dedicated to opening doors to the financial world for students by connecting them with professionals, offering networking opportunities and organizing trips to major financial hubs such as Chicago, New York and San Francisco.
Dr. Elhusseiny has taught both undergraduate and graduate courses at CSUB’s Bakersfield and Antelope Valley campuses. He frequently invites prominent business professionals to campus to share their expertise, further bridging the gap between academics and practice.
