California State University, Bakersfield has been ranked by Hispanic Outlook on Education Magazine in its annual Top 100 Colleges and Universities for Hispanics list.
CSUB ranked No. 52 in the Total Bachelor’s Degrees Granted category, No. 95 for Total Master’s Degrees Granted and No. 83 in Total Enrollment 4-Year Schools. These rankings are based on data from the 2019-20 academic year.
The goal of the rankings, published in Hispanic Outlook’s October issue, is to chart the progress of Hispanic and Latinx students in higher education and highlight institutions that are committed to serving their educational needs.
The lists are compiled from the U.S. Department of Education’s database of higher education surveys from all 50 states, according to the magazine.
CSUB is federally designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), as Latinx students make up more than 25% of full-time equivalent undergraduates. Currently, over 60% of undergraduates at the university identify as Hispanic or Latinx.
As an HSI, CSUB is a member of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU), which represents more than 470 colleges and universities committed to Hispanic higher education. CSUB sponsors a student delegation to the annual HACU Conference, where they can connect with graduate schools, employers and other students from across the country.
Hispanic Outlook on Education is a national monthly magazine that provides education news, innovations, networking and resources through the Hispanic perspective, according to its website.
