California State University, Bakersfield is incredibly honored that the ingenuity and forward momentum of our region is being supported by Gov. Gavin Newsom, who has allocated $83 million in one-time funding for CSUB’s Energy and Innovation Building, a solutions-based incubator of energy research and development.
Calling CSUB ‘a remarkable CSU,’ the governor noted in unveiling his 2022-2023 California Blueprint that “Bakersfield and Kern County are at the center” of forward thinking on energy.
“The Energy and Innovation Building will harness the expertise of our faculty, students and industry collaborators for research-based strategies on the future of energy,” said CSUB President Dr. Lynnette Zelezny. “The cornerstone is a new state-of-the-art building, designed specifically for research, collaboration and experimentation. The complex will feature classrooms, specialized laboratories and workspaces, student project incubator space and several public spaces for collaboration and community engagement.”
In alignment with the Better Bakersfield Boundless Kern (B3K) Workforce Development Plan, the result will be industry-leading technology testing and development, good jobs for our community, creation of a sustainable tax revenue model, improved environmental practices, and enhanced quality of life and prosperity for our communities.
“As the only public four-year university in the epicenter of the energy industry in California, CSUB is uniquely positioned to lead the future of energy,” President Zelezny said. “We are pleased that the governor believes in our vision and has proposed the funding to make it a reality.”
