RegisteredNursing.org recently named California State University, Bakersfield’s Nursing Department as No. 3 on their 2020 Best Online Registered Nursing to Bachelor of Science in Nursing Programs (RN-to-BSN) in California.
“We are pleased to have our program recognized by RegisteredNursing.org. Our local nursing community is made up of compassionate, highly competent professional nurses who represent all educational levels and career stages,” said Deborah Boschini, chair, department of nursing.
The program offers new windows of opportunity for professional growth. As health care continues to expand and evolve, advancements for in-patient care and the accompanying technology has made the need for quality, highly-educated nurses.
“After carefully analyzing RN to BSN programs throughout in California, it became apparent that California State University, Bakersfield not only prepares students for success on the NCLEX-RN exam, but equips nurses with the skills needed to confidently lead in healthcare settings,” RegisteredNursing.Org said in a statement to the university.
Rankings from RegisteredNursing.Org is based on a database of nursing programs for all degree levels and specializations across the entire U.S., including a number of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). From there, the programs are filtered by:
● Programs that have closed or will be closing at the time of data collection
● Programs with no enrollment information via IPEDS
After non-qualifying programs have been filtered, a points distribution is used through a number of items for both graduate and undergraduate programs, including: whether the institution is accredited, if online programs are offered, the number and variety of nursing programs offered, acceptance rate percentage and more.
The RN to BSN Program at CSUB is a post-licensure program designed for students interested in obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) after the completion of an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
“It’s important for CSUB to offer a high-quality RN-BSN program so that our local ADN nurses can pursue the education they need for positions of increased responsibility and leadership in our healthcare community. We deliver a program that is relevant, affordable, and convenient for working nurses, and we are dedicated to helping them meet their professional goals,” Boschini added.
The BSN program gives nurses the needed skills in critical thinking, leadership, case management and health promotion. Graduates are then eligible to apply for a Public Health Nurse (PHN) certificate, once they’ve graduated, which permits work in either public health or school nursing and various community-based organizations.
Cohorts for the program are accepted each fall semester. While the program is online, 135 on-site clinical hours in community health are required.
“Our RN-to-BSN program enables working nurses to continue their education and develop their skills, and we are proud of the program’s contribution to the region’s 21st-century health care workforce. This recognition is well-deserved,” said Kathleen Madden, dean for the School of Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Engineering (NSME).
