For those still working from home or quarantining during the extended stay-at-home order, it has probably been a summer filled with falling down the rabbit hole of social media videos and the latest quarantine trends.
However, if you’re looking for something educational, look no further than California State University, Bakersfield.

Extended Education and Global Outreach
Extended Education is an educational partner at CSUB for campus and the community, creating innovative educational opportunities locally, regionally and worldwide. These efforts contribute back to individual and regional economic development.
A free course is being offered in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, which was created with first responders in mind, currently putting themselves at the forefront of this virus.
The offer applies to new or currently enrolled first responder students in the following programs:
However, new students can also take a single course without applying to a certificate program. If new students are to apply for admission in the programs above, application fees for one program will be waived, as well as the first course. The offer is available through December 31, 2020.
Aside from the free courses, Extended Education also hosts and provides a slew of classes and certificate programs. For more information about this course and others like it, the Extended Education website will provide all of the details and contact information.
Walter W. Stiern Library
There are many resources that anyone can reference through the Walter W. Stiern Library, whether about COVID-19, social justice or other general virtual services currently provided for campus.
The Historical Research Center is currently collecting information for a COVID-19 Community Archive, which allows students, faculty, staff and community members to fill out a form and share their COVID-19 reflections. These can be written or uploaded as a video about how the crisis has impacted the individual.
The Historical Research Center will also be displaying exhibits, including look at CSUB over the 50 years, in preparation for the university’s 50th anniversary and a new fall virtual exhibit, “Voting Rights in America: A History.” All exhibits and past can be found on the Historical Research Center website.
As the nation continues to strive for social justice and defend the Black Lives Matter movement, the Library continues to offer a number of books, articles, videos and other content that will provide additional learning tools on the Library’s Social Justice site.
If you’re thinking of going back to school or just want to see what’s out there, this is the perfect opportunity to explore and see what the CSUB community has to offer.
