How I make a difference: Dr. John Stark
Dr. John Stark, interim dean of the School of Business and Public Administration, just celebrated his 21st anniversary at CSUB. Born in Missouri and raised between there, Arkansas and Alabama, Dr. Stark loves "teaching and working with people to support our students and community."
Dr. Stark became involved with the Interfaith Conference at the invitation of a student, whose mother started the group to "increase knowledge of and tolerance of the various faiths."
The mission of Interfaith Conference:
"This conference, which has run for over 20 years, selects a timely topic (this past fall it involved looking at how the various faiths dealt with major challenges, like the pandemic) and has speakers from four or five faith traditions who speak on the topic from the perspective of their faith. This is followed by audience questions."
Why is it important for CSUB to serve its communities?
"We are a state institution, whose very purpose is to serve the citizens of this state. In that the CSU was set up on a fairly regional basis, our specific CSUB mission is to serve the Southern San Joaquin and Antelope Valleys by providing education and supporting economic and social development."
Dr. John Stark on giving back:
"I have benefited from what the community offers, so it is both my privilege and responsibility to give back in return. Also, being part of something bigger than yourself, something inherently noble, gives meaning to one’s life."
