How I make a difference: Kamye Salyards
For administrative support coordinator Kamye Salyards, CSUB provides an opportunity for learning every day, and not just for students. As a team member for Information Technology Services, her job allows Salyards the opportunity of "meeting new people, serving people, and being challenged with new tasks and projects that provide variety to my day."
Salyards volunteers with CityServe, partnered with Golden Valley’s Truth Tabernacle. CityServe is a Christian organization that receives a variety of donated items from major brands and stores for distribution to the neediest in communities.
Why Salyards got involved with CityServe:
"I have always felt like my life has more purpose when I am giving back to the community in some way. If we have the ability to contribute to someone having a fuller or more meaningful life, then we should make ourselves available to serve. I have spent very few years of my life without volunteering in some way and I cannot imagine a better way to live."
Why is it important for CSUB to serve its communities?
"CSUB is here to provide students an education and a successful academic career that culminates in obtaining a degree. There are many who may not realize the wide open opportunities available to them, CSUB should serve the community by extending knowledge about the programs we offer to reach all the diverse areas within our local community."
