California State University, Bakersfield is inviting the entire community to compete in the 2025 CSUB Golf Classic on March 31.
The proceeds go to student scholarships and the university’s Nursing Student Global Outreach Fund, which sends Roadrunners to locations around the world to help communities in need of quality health care.
Participation costs vary from $200 for a single player to several tiers of sponsorship opportunities. Registration and sponsorship information for the Stockdale Country Club tournament is available here.
“These kinds of events show the community that CSUB is the home for all Kern County residents,” said Raul Navarro co-chair of the university’s Staff Forum, which hosts the tournament.
Among the many prizes are tickets to Six Flags Magic Mountain and a set of golf clubs, courtesy of DICK’s Sporting Goods. Participants receive lunch, a polo and, as Navarro put it, “the chance to play with a bunch of great people, including the president of the university.”
CSUB President Vernon B. Harper Jr. said he can’t wait to tee off again this year.
“There’s no better season in Bakersfield than springtime, and there is no better company to play with than our wonderful friends in the community,” Harper said. “But it’s more than just a tournament. The Staff Forum is offering an opportunity to help students right here in our community pay for their schooling, which helps the entire community in the end.”
Last year’s tournament raised $10,908, half of which went to CSUB’s Pre-Med Club and the other half to seven students through the Staff Forum scholarship fund.
"The members of Staff Forum are “the backbone of the university,” said Navarro, who is a health and safety specialist at CSUB. “We’re the custodians, grounds crew, administration, clerks, cashiers and more. Our mission is to keep this place as strong and supported as possible to help the students excel.”
