Thanks to the generosity of donors, sponsors and event attendees, the CSUB Alumni Association has committed $25,000 to alumni scholarships and $15,000 to clear student balances owed the university so `Runners can stay on track to graduate during the coming academic year.
The scholarships will be awarded to 17 students. Eight students will receive $2,000 each and nine will receive $1,000 each. All of the recipients will be graduate students during the 2022-2023 academic year who received their undergraduate degree from CSUB.
We hope to tell you more about every single one of them soon.
A little more than $9,000 of the $25,000 comes from investment earnings from the Alumni Scholarship Endowment, which was established in 1990 with a $5,000 gift and now is valued at $220,374. The rest comes from money raised through the 2022 Alumni Hall of Fame event in February that raised a net $40,000.
This will be the second year in a row that the Alumni Association commits fundraising dollars -- again from Alumni Hall of Fame -- to helping students clear balances due that otherwise could keep them from graduating on time. We also hope to share more information about the impact this year’s spend will make on these future Roadrunner alumni soon.
