This year, four students from California State University, Bakersfield were admitted into the 2020-2021 CSU Chancellor’s Doctoral Incentive Program (CDIP). Altogether, 82 were admitted with 70% female, 68% first-generation and 6% dependents of military service members. All students chosen from CSUB are now attending Ph.D. programs.
The complete list of students’ names, faculty advisors and universities they are attending are as follows:
Morgan Musquez is in her second year of the Ph.D. program in Experimental Psychology with an emphasis in Behavioral Neuroscience at Idaho State University;
Layla Vasquez is in her first year of the Ph.D. program in Neuroscience at the University of Southern California;
Alam Alavardo is in his first year of the Ph.D. program in Experimental Psychology with an emphasis in Behavioral Neuroscience at Idaho State University;
Raveena Parmar is in her first year of the Ph.D. program in Biological & Biomedical Sciences with emphasis in Behavioral Neuroscience at the University of Arizona, Tucson.
The CDIP was established in 1987 to increase the number of faculty with the qualifications, motivation, and skills needed to teach the diverse students of the CSU. CDIP prepares promising doctoral students for CSU faculty positions by providing financial support ($30,000), mentorship by CSU faculty, professional development, and grant resources.
The program has supported over 1,300 students earning a doctoral degree, and approximately 807 have been appointed to CSU instructional positions. Among the Outstanding CDIP Alumni is CSU Bakersfield’s own president, Dr. Lynnette Zelezny.
