The Department of Nursing at California State University, Bakersfield was recently recognized in the Nursing Schools Almanac for its 2020 rankings. CSUB was highlighted on the lists for the 100 Best Nursing Schools in the West, as well as #48 on the Best Nursing Schools in California.
“As faculty in the Nursing Department, I already know that we have high quality programs at both the graduate and undergraduate level based on our students’ performance outcomes. However, it is nice to be recognized by an outside organization for our success; this report validates that a high-quality nursing education can be obtained here at CSU Bakersfield,” said Dr. Debra Wilson, professor, CSUB Department of Nursing.
The mission of Nursing Schools Almanac is to provide aspiring nurses a detailed, comprehensive and analytical resource for selecting their future nursing school. An integral part of this effort is their annual rankings of the best nursing schools in the country.
Nursing Schools Almanac has collected data on more than 3,000 institutions, with only 20% making the list in each geographic region. Schools were evaluated on three dimensions:
- The institution’s academic prestige and perceived value;
- The breadth and depth of nursing programs offered;
- Student success, particularly on The National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) licensure examination.
The total assessments were then combined into an overall score and ranked accordingly.
Over the past 45 years, more than 2,400 students have completed a BSN at CSUB. CSUB remains the only public university in the region where students can earn a BSN. The Department of Nursing at CSUB has three active programs: a traditional prelicensure BSN, an RN-to-BSN pathway and an MSN degree with an FNP focus.
The Department of Nursing provides education to undergraduate students and graduate students seeking to grow in the professional nursing field or advanced education. This program inspires, encourages and trains individuals to not only grow in their careers, but to give back to the community in which they live.
