California State University, Bakersfield is one of 13 California State Universities to receive a grant from the Chancellor’s Office under the Emergency Housing Initiative. While the allocation is per student, Student Housing has currently acquired around $30,000.
“This funding has been a critical resource for our department. In a time of widespread uncertainty, Student Housing has been able to support more than 25 students by providing a safe place to live. In addition, the campus community has come together to support through donations of hot meals,” said Ashley Scott, associate director of CSUB Student Housing.
With the current pandemic and uncertainty it has brought, many students have found themselves without places to stay. The funding has helped provide both food and housing cost support.
“We are working with students participating in the program to explore their options of either continuing their stay in housing for the 2020-2021 academic year, or connecting them with the Campus Advocate to secure safe and stable housing within the community,” Scott said.
