The Graduate Student Center and the Center for Career Education and Community Engagement at California State University, Bakersfield will co-host a Virtual Graduate Studies Summit next month.
The free summit, which will feature over 20 sessions focusing on graduate education, will take place on Oct. 1 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. via Zoom. The is open to the public, but advanced registration is required.
“This is great opportunity for prospective students to find out how to advance their education,” said Dr. Debra Jackson, associate vice president for academic affairs and dean of academic programs. “A graduate degree can help accelerate one’s career growth and significantly increase earning power.”
The Graduate Studies Summit will assist attendees with exploring graduate education opportunities, provide resources to help with graduate application requirements and funding needs as well as provide general information regarding graduate standardized tests.
The event will feature a panel of distinguished CSUB alumni who will share their perspectives and experiences with graduate education. The panelists are: Dr. Jennifer Sughrue, program director and professor at Florida Gulf Coast University; Dr. Aliya S. Khizer-Varela, provider relations manager of special programs for Kern Family Health Care and founder and director of the ASK Academy Family, Education & Resource Center; Peter Parra, social studies teacher at Highland High School; Deon Danehy, healthcare director; Jaycie Fickle, doctoral candidate at the University of Utah; and Nancy Vargas, associate marriage and family therapist.
The Graduate Studies Summit is supported by grant funding from the Department of Education’s Promoting Postbaccalaureate Opportunities for Hispanic Americans Program.
