The Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association announced the members of the nineteenth Annual Scholar-Athlete Team presented by ARMS Software. CSU Bakersfield’s women’s basketball team had a pair recognized in Jayden Eggleston and Andie Easley.
In addition, the Association selected a men’s and women’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year and two Postgraduate Scholarship recipients. Easley was selected as one of the 2021 Postgraduate Scholarship awardees and will receive $5,000 towards her studies.
Easley finished the season tied second in scoring but lead the team in three-point percentage. Her ability to maintain a perfect postgraduate GPA while performing at a high level on the basketball floor made Easley the most deserving female recipient of the scholarship.
Eggleston led CSUB in scoring, free throw percentage and blocks this year after having had surgery on both legs in the off-season. She was the only Roadrunner to earn regular season conference honors being named to the All-Big West Second Team.
“I am extremely proud and happy for both Andie and Jayden,” stated CSU Bakersfield Director of Atletics Dr. Kenneth “Ziggy” Siegfried. “They both represent what it means to be a scholar-athlete. Both have contributed to our success on the court and more importantly they have shown excellence in the classroom. Thank you, Andie and Jayden, for representing the Women’s Basketball program, the Athletics Department, and our University on a national level.”
Basketball players from all Division I-AAA member schools are eligible for these prestigious awards. Each of the nominees is required to maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.20 in undergraduate study and have been a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletics credentials. Nominees must have participated in at least fifty percent of the team’s games listed on the nomination form. To be eligible for nomination to the Scholar-Athlete Team, the nominee must have reached junior academic standing at their institution.
