Helen Hawk Honors and Alpha Chi recognize hard-working CSUB students

Honors societies hold virtual recognition ceremony

Earlier today, California State University, Bakersfield’s annual Helen Hawk Honors and Alpha Chi Ceremony recognized the hard work, perseverance and commitment to excellence that the university’s top students have displayed throughout the 2019-2020 academic year, during a virtual ceremony.

“Today we are celebrating our best and brightest. I am so very proud of their commitment to excellence,” said President Lynnette Zelezny, offering her sincere and heartfelt wishes and congratulations to the students.

After President Zelezny’s address, the students from the Helen Louise Hawk Honors Program were announced by director Dr. Jacquelyn Kegley.

“This event has always been a highlight for our Helen Hawk and Alpha Chi students and in real time it included a candlelight initiation ceremony,” said Dr. Kegley. “We could not do that but we believed we did need to celebrate and wish our students all the best. We want them to know we are all proud of them.”

This year’s Alpha Chi Fellowship 2020 award winners were Navdeep Kaur and Henna Singh, who were each awarded the Y.H. Benedict Fellowship in the amount of $3,000 to go towards their graduate education.

The Helen Hawk Honors Program has offered special honors classes for its students since the fall of 1980. Approximately 300 students are currently enrolled in the Hawk Honors Program.
