As everyone, including Kern County, navigates the changes due to COVID-19 in work and education settings, the Walter W. Stiern Library at California State University, Bakersfield is continuing to extend their support to the local community to help during this time of need.
“The library works with the local education community in normal times a lot, but during this time of difficulty, it’s especially vital that we keep those lines open,” said Curt Asher, Walter W. Stiern Library dean.
To alleviate stress on Bakersfield High School students, teachers and administration, the Walter W. Stiern Library has provided a guide for students. The guide includes notes on how streamline their homework, Kern High School District updates, and how to find out more class information. The Libguide is located on the library’s website, which will be linked on Bakersfield High School’s site.
Like many schools across the country, Bakersfield High School wasn’t prepared for the chaos of online teaching. Aside from the obvious adjustments, the shift has caused a challenge for a place to hold all of the information, homework and links that needed to be accessed.
Andrea Anderson, Walter W. Stiern library instruction coordinator, collaborated with the high school to centralize the messaging administration was having with students, who had questions and concerns once it was announced that classes would not be resuming in person for the rest of the school year.
“The CSUB library has seen generous collaboration from different educational institutions for our own students and faculty during this unprecedented time, and so we welcome the opportunity to assist Bakersfield High School and our local educational community in any way we can,” Anderson said.
She added that the Libguide will allow students to access information in a safer and more efficient way.
