To start, could you share a bit about yourself — what you do now, and how your time at CSUB helped shape your career path?
I grew up in Bakersfield, specifically Oildale, and came to CSUB right after high school and earned my bachelor’s and master’s degrees. I am the creative and content marketing manager for Thuasne, LLC., a global medical manufacturing company based out of France. I manage brand and marketing for the North American subsidiary and lead a team of seven marketing professionals. CSUB was a huge launching pad for my career. Through my major department, I was connected to internships that helped me connect with individuals that helped lead to jobs. I also was a student assistant for three years and worked on campus after graduation that provided real work experience while also encouraging me to continue my education. Without those mentors, bosses, professors and friends at CSUB, my career would not be where it is today.
What did you love most about your experience as a student at CSUB? Can you tell us more about your time as a `Runner?
My undergrad is in political science and my master's degree is in public administration. I loved being in both of those programs. Shout out to both of those departments! The professors and faculty created great atmospheres in and outside the classroom. To be able to create strong relationships with them as professors and advisors was invaluable, as well as the friends I made in both of those programs. They have become my chosen family, and it was because we were in the same major and cohorts.
What inspired you to get involved with the CSUB Alumni Board in the first place?
I thought a lot about my experience on campus and how integral those relationships I built on campus were to my path and thought I needed to be able to help do that with the next generation of students. Being able to help with programs like the `Runner Alumni Mentor Program (RAMP) and scholarships that aim to connect with students and help with their own paths felt like a good way for me to contribute.
How has your experience on the board so far influenced your perspective on CSUB and its alumni network?
I think it is a good example of when you have a group of people who are passionate about making a difference, big things can happen. Members of the board and fellow alumni always show up to support RAMP, events and socials, and I think it shows how impactful CSUB was on its students and how many are looking to still be involved and give back to their alma mater.
What does it mean to you to step into the role of board president?
I was flattered and honored to be approached about the role. I feel a large responsibility to continue to expand the alumni network and make sure that recent grads and grads from years past know we are here. But also, not only are we here but we are striving to make a positive impact in our community.
What goals or priorities are you most excited to focus on for the 2025–26 academic year?
There are a few things happening this year that I am looking forward to:
- Party in the Park in October. The team has been hard at work planning a fun event with all the carnival necessities — a live band, performers, and most importantly food and beverages! The event will be on Oct. 17, so make sure to get your tickets.
- The biggest one is the annual Alumni Hall of Fame! We are really excited for our 20th anniversary event in February. I am really looking forward to celebrating fellow `Runners who have made big impacts after CSUB.
How would you like to see the Alumni Association grow — both in its presence on campus and its impact in the wider community?
I want the future alumni on campus to know that we are there for them, whether that be through RAMP, helping them make connections or career advice. There is a vast network of alumni in their corner who are happy to help. To the wider community, the Alumni Association is a great way to stay connected to their university, give back to their alma mater and be social.
Are there new initiatives, events, or opportunities you’d like to explore to engage more alumni?
We are looking for ways to connect to the alumni we haven’t reached. We are workshopping some ideas to help prepare soon to be grads for the workforce like headshots. We are looking to connect with those Alumni who may not know we are here with our mentorship program, events and networking.
What’s something you wish more CSUB alumni knew about the university and its efforts to connect with the community?
CSUB is Kern County’s University. More than 60% of CSUB alumni live in Kern County, and our largest pool is educators. I believe it is our responsibility to help continue to support our university's mission to educate and prepare the next generation of community members and professionals. Everything we raise from our events and fundraisers stays here to support scholarships to CSUB graduates pursuing their graduate degrees on campus. So, connect with your fellow alumni, continue to promote CSUB in your classrooms and join us at the alumni events!
