How I make a difference: Emily Callahan
As director of Campus Programming, Emily Callahan has the joy of connecting with students outside the classroom and watching as they demonstrate pride for CSUB. A native of Bakersfield, Callahan has worked at CSUB for 12 years and volunteers with Mendiburu Magic Foundation, an organization "that responds to the unmet needs of local children and their families that may be facing cancer or other catastrophic or life-threatening illnesses."
Why she become involved with Mendiburu Magic Foundation:
"Initially I became involved because I wanted to help the president and vice president, who are dear friends of mine. I loved their effort, intention and care to help our local children and their families. The foundation has become so much more near and dear to my heart since having my own little one who was born early and required a six-week hospital stay. My husband and I are blessed to have great health insurance and a wonderful supportive family and work family, and our needs were taken care of. However, this is not the case for all families. The foundation provides financial support to the families during a time that is already extremely scary and difficult for their family."
Why it's important for CSUB to serve our communities:
"CSUB is the premier educational institution in our beautiful community. You see CSUB and the faculty, staff and students represented everywhere you go in Bakersfield and that alone gives hope for some, goals for others and a positive image for everyone. CSUB represents this community in so many ways, and I am forever grateful to be a part of this amazing team."
