Money magazine has once again recognized California State University, Bakersfield as being one of the best colleges in the nation.
Money rated CSUB 4.5 out of 5 stars in its 2025 Best Colleges in America rankings. More than 700 institutions were evaluated based on several factors, including cost, acceptance rates, graduation rates and earning outcomes.
CSUB was also included in Money’s Best Public Colleges and Best Colleges in the West rankings.
“Now more than ever, a bachelor’s degree is becoming a prerequisite for the American dream of homeownership, a good career and a secure retirement,” said President Vernon B. Harper Jr. “CSUB’s outstanding ranking in Money Magazine’s Best Colleges in America list affirms to every family and student in Kern County that a first-class, affordable university education can be found right here in their hometown.”
The magazine uses a star rating system for its Best Colleges report instead of a traditional numbered system because it believes ratings help families with their college search by highlighting the variety and diversity of the ranked institutions.
Money’s mission is to provide users with resources and tools to make informed decisions about their finances.
The magazine also recently included CSUB in its Best Graduate Schools in America rankings. In partnership with College Factual, Money rated CSUB’s education master’s programs five stars in its Best Education Master’s Programs for Your Money category. CSUB was one of 32 universities across the nation to be ranked in the category.
