CSUB nursing programs recognized among best in state

CSUB ranked No. 7 in RegisteredNursing.org’s Best RN Programs in California list

California State University, Bakersfield’s nursing programs are being recognized as being among the best in the state.

The university was ranked No. 7 in RegisteredNursing.org’s 2024 Best RN Programs in California list. Twenty schools made the rankings, including fellow CSUs Fullerton, Long Beach and Stanislaus.

“(CSUB) is the hub of a comprehensive and rigorous nursing program. With emphasis on critical thinking and empathic care, CSU Bakersfield’s BSN and MSN tracks offer excellent professional advancement,” RegisteredNursing.org said in its ranking.

Institutions were evaluated based on students’ pass rate on the National Council Licensure Examination, which is used by all state boards of nursing to help assess a student’s competency and is required for licensure. RegisteredNursing.org also considered tuition cost, average program length, number of cohorts and other factors in determining its ranking.

RegisteredNursing.org is a California-based organization of registered nurses focused on providing education and employment resources that support current and future nurses.

CSUB’s Nursing Department offers three programs: a traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, a RN-to-BSN program for students with an associate degree in nursing who want to get their BSN, as well as a master’s Family Nurse Practitioner program.

The department is celebrating its 50th graduating class this spring.

"The CSUB Department of Nursing is very proud to offer different nursing programs to meet the needs in Kern County," said professor and assistant department chair Dr. Annie Boehning. "This is our pipeline pathway to grow and retain nurses within our communities in Kern County. The contributions from the dedicated faculties and staff have made all programs successful in meeting the CSUB mission and goals."

The university’s nursing programs have received other top rankings in recent years, such as being ranked No. 1 in Nurse.org’s Top 10 Best Nursing Schools in California and ranking No. 50 in the Nursing Schools Almanac’s 100 Best Nursing Schools in California in 2022.
